Mercersburg Academy is a boarding/day school in the rural town of Mercersburg, Pennsylvania with 443 students in grades 9-12 from 27 states and 22 countries. In honor of Earth Day, the Green Team, their student environmental club, students went around and raised money from other students and faculty members. They have a dress code that does not allow the students to wear jeans to classes - using the ability to wear jeans on Earth Day for a minimum donation of $2, the Green Team raised enough money to buy 52 acres. To cap off the day, they had a great dinner and a concert featuring three performances that consisted of 2 alums, a solo faculty performer, and a student band. The community rallied behind this project, in part, because the facts on our website are so compelling. Saving even one acre of rainforest in Brazil makes a difference to their lives way up in Pennsylvania.
